Aerial Arts

What is Aerial Arts?

The Aerial Arts program was initially conceived by Meaghan Wegg in 2006 and has been developed and refined over many years since then. Meaghan’s goal was to create a balanced training program to cover technical skill, strength, flexibility, safety and spatial orientation equally. Training these elements together within a progressive syllabus will create a well-rounded aerialist. It is highly recommended that this syllabus is followed in parallel with the Acrobatic Arts syllabus and that students are also undertaking dance training. Working through each level in sequence will progress the students safely to the higher levels. The Aerial Arts syllabus starts in Primary level and continues through to Level 6, then into Pre-Professional 1, 2 and 3.

Our Mission

To set the standard of excellence in Aerial Arts education amongst instructors.

Our Premise

We believe that proficient dance and acrobatic educators can be taught to teach Aerial Arts. Great educators already understand the artistic requirements and extension that dance and acrobatics demands and can learn the progressions necessary to safely teach their students the skills fundamental to Aerial Arts.

The Demand

The increasing popularity of Acrobatic Dance propelled by large-scale companies such as Cirque Du Soleil, along with the presence of dance, acrobatics and aerial arts on popular TV, has created a huge demand for Aerial Arts teachers in studio settings. The fusion of dance, acrobatics and aerial arts in modern TV and stage productions require artists to have proficiency in all areas. This has caused some studio owners to hire unqualified instructors to fill the void in their students’ training.

The Aerial Arts Solution

The Aerial Arts program provides easy progressions for teachers to follow, with step-by-step instructions for every level. Aerial Arts starts at the very beginning, educating instructors on correct placement and technique so their students will have the building blocks to progress safely and quickly from one level to the next. Aerial Arts teacher certification courses provide extensive training in spotting and progression so that teachers feel confident, knowledgable and inspired to teach the material. Studios who enter their students into Aerial Arts examinations will have continuous support, examiner meetings, feedback and suggestions to improve the students and their training.

The Benefits

Students who train the Aerial Arts program become balanced, strong, flexible and more fearless on stage. Our program is designed to create aerialists who are well-rounded, understand safe technique and are less prone to injury.
